The Bank of Canada is asking Star Trek fans to stop doodling on $5 bills to turn them into Mr Spock lookalikes.
Since Leonard Nimoy died, Canadian fans have been “Spocking” the five dollar bill that features a portrait of Canada’s seventh prime minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier – who, truth be told, does look a little like a Vulcan anyway.
The Bank of Canada says it’s not illegal to do this but says, “… Markings on a note may also prevent it from being accepted in a transaction.” The Bank of Canada adds that it ” . . . feels that writing and markings on bank notes are inappropriate as they are a symbol of our country and a source of national pride.”
